My Religion

Do you see the walls coming down?
A disarming smile is taking over the frown.

Riveted you stand as the world around you goes dark
Your eyes are locked to mine setting off a spark;

There you stand in your frigid affectation
While your heart melts in sensuous elation;

But the heart can't discern what's foolish or wise,
Mind tells you to ply cold reason, and think twice;

You don't see me for my soul, or the path I've tread
And judge me by name, place and the books I've read?

God is not in sanctioned symbols, brutal discipline and instructed words,
He resides in the loving heart, the air we breathe and the song of the birds.

You trust your eyes to see my color? Dark or light, white or brown;
Reality as you know it is a sham, earth once flat turned out to be round!

Let us open our minds to this fresh stimulation;
An age of cultivated reason, enlightened faith and jubilation.

This is the fountainhead of knowledge we've found;
It is only love that makes the world go around.
